Get ready to use your expertise to collaborate like a pro as you create the business of your dreams. Now is the time to make changes and live your best life. Let's get to it! Val Selby [00:00:36]: Ahhhhh! Let's just start off just like that. Oh my gosh. Tech has been a lot, and, yeah, we can kinda - okay, I'm just - I'm just gonna say it. I was gonna be that girl. Welcome, by the way, I'm Val. I have to jump right in. You can tell. Val Selby [00:00:59]: It's been a little bit since I recorded. We do the batch recordings and all of a sudden it's like, oh, oh my god. I have not talked to my people in so long. Oh my gosh. So many things. Anyways, it's been a week this week. I'm recording on Thursday. Val Selby [00:01:16]: This was supposed to be recorded last week. And obviously, it was not because I thought I was just having my normal. My Internet's being like shit. My computer's being like shit because it wants to die. Meanwhile, my modem router. Yes, I understand. You're not supposed to do modem router because if one of them goes out, you don't know which one it is to be fixing. But I wanted to save the $60, and I had a modem router, and it wasn't even 2 years old, and it broke. Val Selby [00:01:45]: It died. So then I spent 4 days without a modem or router because I don't rent from the company. I have my own. So, you know, thankfully, I got one real quick. I guess that's the beauty of living in the world of Amazon country. You could, when you figure set that and you order it, you can get it within sometimes less than 24 hours, which it was. But I was still waiting, waiting, waiting. That day, I was happy to be waiting. Monday. Val Selby [00:02:13]: Yeah. Mercury retro grade. Of course. Of course. I don't like blaming stuff on other things. You know, I take ownership that I was doing my list, my to do list. And I was just like, okay. I'm right on it. Val Selby [00:02:32]: Like, I'm right on the edge of adding too much to my to do list versus this will easily get done. So when I didn't have Internet for the 4 days, that set me to you ain't getting shit done because I can't work from my phone. I just can't. I can't do it for, you know, like, write emails and all of that. It's just not possible for me. So I was doing other things. I was working out of, you know, pen and paper. You know, I had my big notebooks and I actually, like, hung out with my husband in the garage and, like, doodled and wrote weird notes and just kinda just looked to see where the pen and paper would take me. Val Selby [00:03:16]: And, it was helping me get more focused because that's the whole point of what I would come and talk to you about. I don't - you don't care about my modem. Right? You have to still listen. Bless you for listening. It was getting me back on track because I am putting together a new launch that will be coming up in the next couple of, probably be quite the time this goes out. It's gonna be a couple of months and that launch will be announced. So I'm putting all the assets together this month. August is all about creating every bit of the assets. Val Selby [00:03:52]: And then figuring out, you know, I'm gonna do a webinar, figuring out what that webinar. So then I'm working on figuring out the webinar, and all of a sudden I'm realizing I have kind of gone through to figure out who I'm talking to, but I have not gone into enough detail for my liking. So the problem is gonna be what I'm going to do this launch is if I don't know who the hell I'm talking to, I'm talking to no one. Right? Right? Right? You know that. You know that. Right? Okay. So you might know it, but are you listening to it? If you are talking to everyone, you're talking to no one because it won't connect. So I started really writing down and getting more specific of who the hell I'm talking to. Val Selby [00:04:44]: And I want you to know who the hell you're talking to when you're writing an email. It makes marketing smoother. It makes it a little easier, but it makes it smoother. Because now when you're opening that blank email, looking at that template for your email for your blog post, coming on to do the podcast, cast, whatever. You're just starting and it's blank, zero. You already know and might even be able to visualize that person that you want to be reaching. So here's the difference between knowing who you're talking to and talking to everyone. The people that I am following, that I have subscribed, I am noticing more and more especially since I'm paying attention for my own launch right now, like, really researching. Val Selby [00:05:40]: And I'm noticing I'm unsubscribing from quite a few people because it's a generic email. It is pretty generic. I need to pay attention that I'm doing what I'm doing as well, but I'm not gonna go into that right now. That's like a whole new can of worms looking at my own emails. Right? That's another topic. This is me figuring out who the hell I wanna talk to, which will help with my emails as well. But as I'm opening up my emails and looking at the people that I'm following and paying attention because I have been unsubscribing left and right. Val Selby [00:06:16]: Of course, you know, being in events for as long as I've been in events, you know, running them, consulting, managing, you know, running my own, signing up for lots. I still do sign up for stuff because I wanna get to know new people. And I'll find a perfect product that I just have to have. And so then I'm on a bunch of lists. I'm working on going through those and finding out if they're actually talking to me and quickly getting rid of them. So that means that if I open your email and I feel connected that you are talking to me, that I'm gonna stick around. I'm gonna hang out. I'm gonna find out more information from you. Val Selby [00:06:56]: I'm gonna be waiting there to find out what are you launching next. How can we work together? And that's because those people know that I'm their target audience. So when I open the email, I feel like they are talking to me. And that happens because you sit down and you do your research, and you start figuring out who the hell you want to talk to. Now I understand. I get - actually, I don't get pushed back anymore because I don't care. And it's not that I don't care about my group members or my customer or my clients or any of you. It's not that I don't care that you don't get results. Val Selby [00:07:44]: I don't have a fight anymore. And if you decide that you don't wanna have a target audience, that you're not gonna figure out any niche whatsoever, that you're gonna talk to everybody. I know from my experience, that's what you're gonna do. So you're gonna have to learn the hard way and you're just gonna have to learn it on your own. I get it because that's what I did. That's totally what I did. That's why I didn't come in here and tell you. I'm doing it the hard way. Val Selby [00:08:11]: Believe me, because I did it the hard way for a really long time. And that's just being stubborn little witch. Stubborn little witch. I do it my way. You can't tell me. That's why I'm really working on not telling people what to do because you possibly are just like me and you tell me what not to do and I'm like, fuck off. I will do it exactly that way now and I will prove it. Even if it's, like, so wrong, it's so stupid. Val Selby [00:08:38]: It's like, no way it's gonna work, you idiot. Oh, I will make it work. I will make it work. And, of course, it doesn't work. Just being a stubborn idiot. So if that's you, if you are a stubborn idiot like I was, there's hope. You can recover from being a stubborn idiot. Just start paying attention to when you're emailing. Val Selby [00:08:59]: Do you have any idea who you're talking to? When you're creating a product, do you have any idea who you're talking to? Is there kinda somebody specific or are you looking at it going, okay, I'm talking to digital creators. All of the digital creators. I think my husband's going to clean the garage so there might be some noise. Sorry about that. If you hear that. Anyways, I really hope you don't hear this because it's so loud. He's obviously blowing all the dust out everywhere. Okay. Val Selby [00:09:32]: So we're gonna finish this up really quick. I want you to sit down and figure out who is the person that you are going to talk to? Who is that one connection that you are hoping? Who's that that connection you are hoping will open up your email. You put a question in there and they will hit reply because you wanna have further conversation with them. You don't want to help them through this, that. Yeah. Those are your people and in order to get to them, you have to get a little niched. Don't freak out over the word niche. Niche is not forever. Val Selby [00:10:11]: Niche means this is who you're talking to right now. And if you have an upcoming launch, like I talked about with mine, if you have an upcoming launch, those are the people that I'm talking to right now. Those are the products that I'm putting in events because I want to get those people in my community. I'm being very specific. This is who I'm talking to right now. It does not mean that I'm not talking to the Max's or I'm not talking to a whole lot of people. It means that right now I'm looking for this specific connection. Right now, I want to be right there looking at you and saying, hey, I know you need this. Val Selby [00:10:54]: We need this. Let's do this together. Okay? Come in for more information. Alright. I've got a whole mess of stuff going on. My modem's back. It's Thursday. I'm gonna finish this week out on a high note and get so much more stuff done. Val Selby [00:11:09]: I hope that you are off to an awesome week. And if you don't know what your niche is, if you don't know who the hell you're talking to, you know, just hit me up.
